Elastography

Home Radiology X-ray Abdomen / Pelvis Liver

Elastography is an imaging technique that can be used to assess the elasticity of tissue. The examination procedure is based on the principle that stiffer tissue reflects sound waves differently than softer tissue.

However, it is important to note that elastography is not a substitute for other imaging modalities such as ultrasound, mammography or MRI.

Elastography is a valuable tool in the diagnosis of many diseases. Liver disease (e.g., cirrhosis, liver fibrosis), breast cancer, prostate cancer, and thyroid abnormalities can all be diagnosed with elastography. Elastography is safe and does not require ionizing radiation.
