Interventional radiology

Interventional radiology is a relatively young sub-specialty of diagnostic radiology and represents the therapeutic arm of the specialty of diagnostic radiology. Interventional radiology uses image guidance (ultrasound, CT, MRI, and angiography) to perform therapeutic interventions, for example, in the vascular (e.g., peripheral arterial occlusive disease) and biliary systems (e.g., tumorous occlusion of the bile duct system) as well as in parenchymal organs (e.g., radiofrequency ablation of liver metastases).
