The sacrum (Os sacrum) connects the ilia and completes the bony pelvic ring, Inflammation of the sacral joints is often an early sign of ankylosing spondylitis and other spondyloarthropathies. A fracture of the sacrum is often difficult to detect clinically and is clearly visible with magnetic resonance imaging.
