PET/CT FDG Thyroid gland

Home PET/CT PET/CT Throat Thyroid

FDG is used to study glucose metabolism, which can be increased in cases of tumors or inflammations, for example. In FDG-PET examination of the brain, areas with reduced glucose metabolism are of particular interest, for instance, in the diagnosis of epilepsy and dementia.

You will need: a referral (detailed question), previous images/reports, creatinine value (which can also be taken and checked by us), and the completed questionnaires. You should not eat any food 12 hours before the examination (water, medication are allowed).

The examination consists of three phases: In the preparation phase, the radioactive substance is specially prepared for each patient and then administered (usually intravenously). The technical phase includes the implementation of scintigraphy, SPECT, or PET measurements including image evaluation. The information phase (medical reporting) concludes the process.

You will receive a minimal amount of a radioactive substance (radiopharmaceutical) with a short half-life. After 20 -240 minutes, it has sufficiently accumulated in the target organ and the examination can be carried out.

These examinations are conducted by the nuclear medicine department. These examinations are privately paid, and can be submitted to a supplementary/private insurance.

Thyroid Care Center

The thyroid gland is a small, hormone-active organ.

Despite its small size, diseases of the thyroid gland often lead to a variety of symptoms. They affect the activity of the metabolism, the cardiovascular system, and the gastrointestinal tract, but can also affect the nerves and psyche, causing discomfort.

Both functional disorders (hypothyroidism = underactivity, hyperthyroidism = overactivity) and tumor-like diseases are very common. However, early diagnosis and timely therapy open up a good prognosis for thyroid diseases (e.g. goiter, thyroiditis, Hashimoto’s disease, Graves’ disease, thyroid cancer).

In the case of abnormal findings, we ensure a clear and reliable diagnosis within the shortest possible time with the help of the latest technology and established cutting-edge medicine. We accompany you from suspicion to diagnosis and, if necessary, through therapy to aftercare.
